Lost Last Letter-5

Continued…
Raj & Devika made their way to the reception, enquiring about Aruna they went into the ICU ward, where the policeman who had made a call to Devika was standing with his sturdy, well-built personality. He took them inside the ward and it was like a wave of sudden silence from rest of the world crept on seeing Aruna being badly hurt. She was Raj’s cousin:Chote papa ki chulbuli beti, this is what he called her loving, pretty sister who also happened to be his super junior & ironically only friend(to be noted it’s not GOOD FRIEND) of Devika.
The doc treating her spoke to them in a very low pale tone,”injuries are grave. Loss of blood is quite less but can’t despise its effects. Her right elbow is fractured cos she hit the tree off the road, on the wrong side. As of now she’s outta danger but we prefer her to stay unconscious. Fracture will be fine in few days. She needs to stay for 2 more nights”.
Raj was feeling very terrible to see such a jovial girl bedridden. Devika was set on tears & Raj was shocked again to see this!!! At least those tears asserted she had somewhere a human feeling inside her. They both sat on the chair adjacent to her bed with Devika holding her hand pierced with IV line. He sat on the opposite side staring constantly at his cute little sis Aruna. From childhood she had been his best friend & the star in their joint political family. She was his CHOTE PAPA’s daughter, who was his father’s right hand: as they say in politics. His father was a highly renowned politician back in his native & letting family know about this it wasn’t less then inviting problems having a blend of high time emotional drama by his chachi, mom & dadi & the farcical media speculations, so he chose to handle this alone in disguise. Later he broke the news to his uncle in a very diplomatic way assuring that Aruna didn’t have any major injury. His uncle made some phone calls & there were bed arranged for both of them along with financial assistance & Raj was quite satisfied with the impunity he just displayed.
By all this it was 10pm. He went out to grab some fresh air in the garden outside. He was still somewhere thinking in his mind that he had slept off in the library while studying & obviously that dream of his should be called a nightmare with all due respect. By then Device came out to join him, but for a different cause. “ I m gonna stay here 2nite,u go back to hostel.”  Raj replied,”u can’t expec me2 go!! She is ma sis, m d one who’s gona stay n ur gona walk away &…..” She left before he framed his next line. This is damn perturbing!! He thought. He was hungry & so he went out and bought a parcel of fried rice from nearby hotel: 2 plates. He came back to ward & found Aruna to be alone. He decided to have his plate since he was very hungry. Soon Devika came in & he offered her rice which she obstinately turned down & removed the leftover bread pieces from her bag to have them. This made Raj go mad at her terribly. How dumb of her to do this!
The ICU ward was large enough that extra two beds had been arranged, unfortunately side by side separated by 5ft. This was very awkward for both. Still for Aruna they were silent. The AC was cooling them pleasantly. Both knew they were not able to sleep & Raj was getting bored. Just out of curiosity he turned towards her & she was looking straight towards the ceiling as if she was going to break it by focusing all her energy. At last he ended the long prevailing silence by asking,” hey wher wer u past 2 days!!! N how cum the police cald only u??? Aruna din tel me ur her gud frn!!” she replied reluctantly,” it’s none of ur business.jus goto sleep”.  This is the limit he thought, I am trying to be casual with her & she’s being so impudent. I have to stop this & yelling at her he said” wt d hell is ur prob!! Al dese yrs u fot wid me n even I did in return cos I was enjoyin it.but nw ur out of ur limit!! Y can’t u get the bloody situation..i don hv ny bloody inters to hv a chat wd u”
Devika got up with moist eyes & said,” don act as if ur an innocent guy. Remember the 1st day of our coll ,u insulted me when I fell down n ur words meant I wasn liable to be here!! U dnt hw hw f***’d up is my life. M an orphan. I don kw whu d hell r ma parents. I hv been brought up in SOME STUPID ORPHANAGE, working all the time, bearing insults, listening quietly to cheap ides, begging for funds for my education. From den I hv fot tooth & nail to get here n m greeted like dis??.  I nvr wantd sympathy of anybody n ppl like u always scorned me, tricked me,played with me!!! Y d hell u all r such hypocrites? N nw jus coz I helpd u wid some topic u hv got a soft corner fr me!!! Thank you…..keep it to urself ..lame guy”. Weeping badly she went out in the garden. Raj felt very bad for what all she just told him. He went near the window, moving the curtains aside, he saw her sobbing on the bench, holding her legs tightly in her arms.
Hate had sublimed into apathy. After some time Devika lifted her face to wipe her tears off & Raj went to apologize. Before he could, he felt something stealing his focus away from the word ‘sorry’ & that was when he noticed keenly, the beautiful red, and soda glass excluded face of Devika. Change was foreseen…..

Radha came running inside the room. Managing the nauwari sari was still a difficult job for her. She was wearing it since 8 years as it was the traditional Brahmin apparel for women in those days. She went to the wooden cupboard beside the bed and took out the white pagadi and gave it Ramrao. Ramrao took it with a smile on his face and looking into her eyes he said,” Thank you my dear wife” for which she smiled him back and put her head down evincing her shyness. Having said that he left for work. Radha was 18 years old and Ramrao, who was 35, then, was her husband. In those days girls were married at the age of 8 or...

A small crowd of reporters was waiting anxiously for the WRITER to arrive, and back of my mind I was very much excited to keep them waiting. I was accompanied by my agent and we walked inside the conference hall and the sound of warm applause relieved me; though, it didn’t satisfy me. We sat on the chair, which was a de facto way to start the so called interview. “Good evening to all my friends. I am now fixed to chair and you can start the interview. I know many of you have myriad questions running in your minds and soon they are going to be blasted on me. So let the 1 st question of the evening come in” (A lady of a leading newspaper gets up as soon as if she was waiting to pounce the piec...

Story of an Untold Story

To be part of the next edition, visit and start following  Blog-a-Ton . The theme for the month is 'An Untold Story' "You miss her ??" asked the son to his father who was on the verge of entering into senility. “I have never. Nor do I intend to.” was the sturdy reply. Son sensed the succinct rudeness in his father’s reply. Trying to be indifferent he proceeded further. “Well… true. You only miss someone when that someone is absent; mother is present in your heart and you can’t deny it.” “See, you got me” said his father with a smile on his wrinkled face. “Dad, I wish she was with us today. I could have seen tears in her eyes when I was about to go abroad for my job. I could have asked her to prepare all delicious desi dishes to eat.” There were tears in his eyes while saying this...
